Extractions and Bone Grafting

Dental emergencies such as severe tooth pain, infection, or trauma may sometimes make tooth removal necessary. When a tooth cannot be saved, prompt treatment can relieve discomfort and protect your oral health.
At Beachside Dental, we provide gentle extractions and bone grafting in a calm, supportive environment while prioritizing your comfort and long-term smile health.
When Is an Emergency Extraction Necessary?
Although preserving natural teeth is always our goal, certain situations may require prompt removal to prevent additional complications.
Extractions may be recommended for:
- Severe tooth infections or abscesses
- Teeth fractured or damaged beyond repair
- Advanced decay causing significant pain
- Dental trauma resulting from accidents or injuries
- Teeth loosened by advanced periodontal disease
- Teeth causing severe swelling or discomfort
Following a thorough examination and digital imaging, our team will discuss all available treatment options before recommending extraction.
In some cases, treatments such as root canals or antibiotic therapy may help address infection and preserve the natural tooth. If extraction is necessary, we will also review options for replacing the missing tooth.

What Happens During a Tooth Extraction?
First, we perform a comprehensive examination and take digital images to evaluate the affected tooth and surrounding structures.
A local anesthetic is then administered to numb the area completely. During the procedure, you may feel pressure, but you should not experience pain. Depending on the condition of the tooth, it may need to be removed in sections to ensure a safe and comfortable extraction.
Once the tooth has been removed, the area is carefully cleaned and prepared for healing.
Bone Grafting After an Extraction
After a tooth is removed, the jawbone naturally begins to shrink. Bone grafting may be recommended immediately following extraction to help preserve bone volume and support future restorative treatment.
During this procedure, specialized grafting material is placed into the extraction site to encourage healthy bone regeneration.
Bone grafting can:
- Preserve jawbone structure
- Support future dental implant placement
- Help maintain facial appearance
- Encourage healthy bone regeneration
